Steph, we read Immortal Life last year and liked it a lot. Great discussion.
Thinking about Family Fang for July... |

| I have an unconventional books suggestion. It's called Stiff by Mary Roach. It was given to me by a family member and the subject matter surprised me since I never would have guessed that the person who it came from would be interested in the topic. It's about human cadavers. I'm reading it right now and while it's not to everyone's taste it could be a great change of pace and is a non-fiction read. The back cover says "Siff is an oddly compelling, often hilarious exploration of the strange-lives of our bodies postmotem." So far the description fits. Maybe a 2013 pick? |

We read and liked Roach's BONK. So far we are trying to not repeat authors, unless they want to come meet with us or video chat with us, that is.
Good pick, though. Keep suggesting more.
I am trying to find the best December pick now. |

I'd like to reread gatsby with the movie coming out next year.
Other suggestions, taken from NPR's talking volume series: Cutting for stone by verghese and night circus by Morgenstern |

| Like the idea of Erin Morgenstern's The Night Circus for December. That one was shortlisted earlier, no? |

A Short History Of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson. My boyfriend is reading it and loving it. He is not a book reader! If you pick this I may finally be able to drag him to book club.
It is another non-fiction recommendation I hope that's ok.

What to read in December?
I want to decide before BLB next week. Turn of Mind, Family Fang, State of Wonder, Great Expectations or other Dickens? |

| Turn of Mind sounds the most promising. I know When She Woke and The Night Circus have been mentioned in the past, they're both good. Maybe something by Phillip K. Dick? |

Anyone read any of these possible picks?
The Barbarian Nurseries by Héctor Tobar?
How I Became a Famous Novelist - Steve Hely
Later in paperback -
Age of Miracles
Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore
Gone Girl
How Should a Person Be
I think I'll post another poll on our Facebook page using top vote getters we have not read yet. |

| I think Gone Girl would be a great discussion. People seem to be polarized by it. I'm in the minority on Age of Miracles in that I thought it was just OK. But it would probably also make a good discussion. |

December - Turn of Mind by Alice LaPlante.
Lots of 2013 still up for grabs. In fact, most of 2013. |
