When I was an engineering student at Iowa State University in Ames Iowa, there was a 36 hour trivia marathon called Kalida-Quiz. The first year I participated my house/floor won 3rd place out of 100 teams. The year I was one of the leaders of our team, half of our group dropped out after the timed scavenger hunt. There was always a mysterious group that won first place every year called, "The Flying Carp." I wonder if they still run it being that you can look things up on the internet and such.
