Some notes from last night. Please feel free to add yours.

p. 24 Brazil has 60 tribes that are unknown to us
p. 59 RGS like TLAwSZ
p. 72 - anyone sign and return this contract from the newsletter I sent? I would have given you the prizes last night
p. 210 Have you ever doubted your life's work?
p. 212 Surly quote!
p. 219 Honour of immortality - spiritual quest for Fawcett? Did it become that or was it always that? I think we decided it may have morphed into it when he thought he may not find a real city.
p. 299 Atlantis - We spoke a bit of how the oceans are one of the truly undiscovered areas of the planet left to explore. What was Fawcett thinking in regrads to Atlantis and Lost City of Z?

Would you be an explorer?

Did you read the New Yorker article? Was this book necessary or was the article enough?

Did you like Grann's writing style? Where did it work best? Where did he misfire/misstep?

Was he deceiving us the whole book with information from journals he had at the beginning?

Was their emotional resonance? Did Grann make authorial choices?

Did you stay home and watch Glee instead of coming to B&B?

Did you know Glee is available on Hulu right now. Great season finale. Check it out.

Love to hear your thoughts on that or Lost City of Z. If you couldn't make it to our discussion, what are your questions? Ask them here.

Below is a link for 1491 by Charles Mann, the less exciting but more informative story of recent discovering about Native Americans that I mentioned last night.

Also, here's the story about the "uncontacted tribe" from a couple of years ago:

I remembered there being something sketchy about the story, but I guess they really are "uncontacted."
